Priorities: Sustainability & Caring Service

In keeping with our love and respect for nature, sustainability and eco-conscious practices are at the heart of our operations and decision-making processes. Our packaging has been carefully selected to be biodegradable and/or recyclable, and where possible, we re-use packaging instead of buying new. We avoid plastic as much as possible, but when we do use it, it is recyclable plastic and in some cases it is unavoidable.

Our small and dedicated team is committed to kind, understanding and helpful communication with all of our customers. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or feedback we are always open to hearing what you have to say and to help you as much as we can.

On our online shop, you will find:

  • Basic DIY kits of various sizes so that you have all the substrates necessary to fill a vessel you already have (no more, no less) - a great way to upcycle used glass jars and other containers and to give your small or baby houseplants a home

  • Terrarium kits that include living succulent plants or cacti for open terrariums or glass vases you may already have, of various sizes

  • Terrarium kits that include living tropical and foliage plants perfect for closed, humid terrariums you have at home, of various sizes

  • Terrarium kits with lush, living carpet and pillow/cushion mosses to fill a whole range of containers

  • Complete terrarium kits that include all of the above AND a gorgeous glass terrarium for you to fill to your heart’s content

  • Glass terrariums that you can buy separately, of various styles and sizes
  • A bottle garden range that includes various sizes of glass bottle gardens with cork stopper, tools, plants and substrates
  • Terrarium tools such as expandable fork and shovel, funnel, terrarium brush, scissors, tweezers and neem oil mixes
  • Fully assembled, carefully and lovingly designed and planted moss terrariums in glass containers, so that you have a ready-made piece of the outdoors that you can place in a room as a centrepiece, in the corner, on a shelf, or on your desk soon after receiving it.

Why?

Having fallen in love with terrariums ourselves, we wanted to share the love with others. This easy, rewarding and therapeutic plant craft will bring you and your loved ones much enjoyment for many years to come. Terrariums are easy to build, easy to look after and look wonderful whether you're a beginner or an expert.

Our Story

Growing up in London, I became accustomed to city living. We had a garden and were surrounded by green space around my home (one of the things London truly excels at), but I often fantasised about other worlds. I loved things in miniature, creating stories by observing the movement and life of insects, acting out stories with my sisters and friends. I was enchanted by the prospect of living in the miniature worlds I created. In adulthood, when I moved out of my family home and into a flat in the city of Edinburgh, I no longer had a garden to enjoy. I had spotted some of these terrariums online and wanted to recreate them myself. I was overwhelmed and found the whole process complicated. I couldn't find the right materials or plants from my local garden centres, so I went online to search for kits. They were wonderful, but were all based in the USA or Australia. I had just graduated, so I decided to start a little online project, and after a lot of research and experimentation, I launched UK Terrariums to offer other UK residents what I had been looking for. We have come a long way since our humble beginnings, and we are now surrounded by an inspiring and wonderful community of terrarium artists and other terrarium kit retailers. We are so excited about the future; we hope you will join us on our journey as we grow, to invite people to bring beauty and nature into their homes.
